A horrifying case of domestic violence and financial despair has shocked residents of Osisioma, Abia State, following reports that a man identified as Udokwukwu set his home on fire, killing his wife and baby in the blaze.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident was sparked by financial hardship and accusations of infidelity. Udokwukwu had reportedly been struggling to provide for his family. Tensions escalated when his wife, Mary, visited his shop demanding money for food, which he refused to give.
Later that night, as the family slept, Udokwukwu allegedly returned home with a can of fuel, doused the apartment, and set it ablaze, resulting in the deaths of Mary and their baby.
In a grim twist, Udokwukwu was found dead the next day. While the cause of his death remains unclear, some family members have suggested a possible reprisal attack. However, as of now, the Abia State Police Command has not issued an official statement or confirmed any arrests.
The bodies of the victims have been deposited in a local mortuary as investigations continue. The tragic event has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for urgent attention to issues of mental health, domestic violence, and poverty.
Residents have also appealed to the authorities to provide more social support systems for families in economic distress to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
