Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation support fund for civil servants in Oyo State following the recent increase in petrol prices across the country.
Makinde announced the intervention during the supervision of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project–Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (YEAP-SAfER) support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub.
The governor explained that the initiative would run for an initial period of three months and is part of the state government’s response to growing economic pressures, particularly the rising cost of transportation affecting workers.
According to him, the support fund is designed to ease the financial burden on civil servants while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies in the state.
“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden,” Makinde said.
He noted that the intervention aligns with the administration’s worker-friendly policies and broader economic relief efforts under the SAfER framework implemented by the Oyo State Government.
The event also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries under the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) and other targeted support programmes aimed at boosting economic activities and strengthening livelihoods across the state.
Stakeholders at the engagement described the initiative as a timely intervention, saying the transport support would provide immediate relief to workers dealing with inflationary pressures.
The ₦10,000 transportation allowance will take effect from March, while details on the disbursement process will be communicated through official government channels.
