Madagascar’s President Michael Randrianirina has dismissed his prime minister and the entire cabinet, a spokesperson confirmed on Monday.

Randrianirina seized power in October following youth-led protests that forced out former president Andry Rajoelina, taking control of the Indian Ocean island nation.

In a statement, the President’s communications director, Harry Laurent Rahajason, said, “The President will shortly proceed with the appointment of a new Prime Minister, following the procedures set out by the constitution.”

The statement did not provide a reason for the dismissal of the previous government.

Observers note that the move comes as part of ongoing political restructuring following Randrianirina’s takeover and could signal further changes in the country’s leadership.
