Liverpool boss Slot backs Salah to end goal drought

Arne Slot insists Mohamed Salah’s scoring form will return soon despite the forward’s six-game drought.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed full confidence in Mohamed Salah, saying he is not worried about the Egyptian star’s recent dip in form.

Salah, who has gone six games without scoring for Liverpool, last found the net from open play on the Premier League’s opening weekend. He was dropped from the starting lineup during Liverpool’s 5–1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt and missed key opportunities in last week’s 2–1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash against Brentford, Slot admitted he didn’t know why Salah was struggling but stressed that it was normal for top players to have off periods. “In general, in football, players miss chances — and Mo is a human being as well,” the Dutch coach said. “We’re not used to him missing chances, let alone a few games in a row, but these things can happen.”

Despite Salah’s slow start — with just two Premier League goals in eight matches this season — Slot remains optimistic that the forward will soon return to his prolific best. “The last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again,” he said. “That’s what he’s done his whole life, and that’s what I expect him to do in the upcoming weeks and months for our club as well.”

Liverpool, who won the Premier League title last season, invested heavily in new players during the summer, spending around £450 million ($600 million) to strengthen their squad.

However, the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid and several injuries have forced tactical adjustments, with midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai occasionally filling in at right-back.

Slot’s faith in Salah comes as Liverpool look to maintain momentum in their title defence, and fans will be hoping the Egyptian king rediscovers his golden touch sooner rather than later.
