The Lagos State Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has commended the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the controversial Expatriate Employment Levy. This decision according to the LCCI Boss Dr. Chinyere Almona, FCA reflects a responsive approach to the concerns voiced by the business community, aligning with the LCCI’s advocacy for a conducive environment that fosters economic growth and development.
The LCCI, a prominent voice representing businesses in the country, described the suspension as a positive response to the serious apprehensions raised by the private sector, as highlighted not only by the Chamber but also by various private sector advocacy institutions in the past week.
“The swift action demonstrates a commitment to nurturing a harmonious relationship between the government and the business community, laying the foundation for an improved business environment.”
The chamber also urged governments at all levels to remain attuned to the concerns of the private sector, emphasizing that such responsiveness enhances the profitability and sustainability of businesses in Nigeria.
“By heeding these concerns and suspending the Expatriate Employment Levy, the Federal Government exhibits a willingness to engage with the business community and adapt policies to better align with economic realities.
“The LCCI expresses gratitude to the Federal Government for this decision and anticipates continued collaboration in advancing the interests of the Nigerian business community.”
This cooperative effort between the government and businesses is seen as a crucial step towards creating an environment that supports economic growth, attracts investment, and ensures the long-term sustainability of enterprises across the nation.
