LASUBEB Conducts Free Health Checks for Over 300 Staff, Promotes Routine Screening

Also speaking at the event, Dr. John Kolawole, a medical consultant from Afriglobal Medicare Limited, educated staff on the importance of Full Blood Count tests in routine health checks.

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has successfully concluded its annual free health check for staff members, aimed at promoting early detection and prevention of critical health conditions.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by the Deputy Director of Information, Abe Adunola, the exercise was held from Tuesday, July 22 to Wednesday, July 23, 2025, and provided health screening services to over 300 staff members.

The screenings included blood pressure monitoring, glucose screening, and a Full Blood Count (FBC) test—an essential diagnostic tool in detecting conditions like anaemia, infections, immune disorders, and blood cancers.

According to LASUBEB, the event is part of a broader wellness strategy to ensure that employees in the basic education sector remain physically and mentally healthy.

The theme of this year’s exercise, “Healthy Blood, Healthy Life: Why Blood Count Matters,” was underscored during a health awareness walk held on the final day.

Speaking at the event, LASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare.

“This year’s focus on blood count aims to demystify its crucial role in modern healthcare,” he said.
“Too often, we wait until symptoms become severe before seeking help. But prevention is not to be denied.”

Dr. Shittu also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for its commitment to the overall well-being of public servants in Lagos, particularly in the education sector.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. John Kolawole, a medical consultant from Afriglobal Medicare Limited, educated staff on the importance of Full Blood Count tests in routine health checks.

He encouraged staff to adopt healthy lifestyles, including iron-rich diets, regular physical activity, stress management, and periodic medical screening.

“Many life-threatening conditions can be detected early and managed effectively if people commit to routine checks,” he said.
