The Lagos State Government has approved the recruitment of 150 additional men and women into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), reinforcing efforts to enhance emergency response and public safety across the state.

The announcement was made by Controller General of LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, during the flag-off of the LSFRS Squad 23 training exercise at Ikeja on Wednesday, according to a statement signed by the service’s Public Affairs Officer, Maria Fadairo.

The latest recruitment underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s continued commitment to building a resilient, well-equipped, and professionally trained fire and rescue service. The statement highlighted previous landmark recruitments, including 100 firefighters in 2020, on the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the record enlistment of 435 firefighters in 2022, the largest in the history of the Lagos Fire Service.

The 2022 Passing Out Parade coincided with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the LSFRS and featured the commissioning of 62 fire apparatuses, new fire stations at Ajegunle, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru – Lekki, and a purpose-built, ultra-modern headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja.

Adeseye revealed that the newly recruited firefighters, employed in November 2025, are currently undergoing training at the upgraded LSFRS Fire Academy. They are participating in the Professional Basic Firefighting Competency and Short Service Course, aimed at developing them into disciplined, highly skilled, and operationally efficient emergency responders in line with global best practices.

She added that the Lagos State Government remains committed to investing in human capacity, modern infrastructure, and operational equipment to safeguard lives, property, and the environment throughout the state.
