The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has announced plans to reconstruct the remaining police stations destroyed during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, officials confirmed over the weekend.
Olusegun Dada, Special Adviser on Social Media to President Bola Tinubu, shared the update on X on Monday. The announcement was made by Ayodeji Ogunsan, Executive Secretary of the Fund, during a press interaction at the LSSTF office in Alausa, according to The Nation.
“The Fund has got a partner in the rebuilding. The police stations yet to be rebuilt after the destruction have been inspected and work would soon kick off on them,” Ogunsan said.
Since assuming office in October, Ogunsan pledged to strengthen accountability, expand the Fund’s network of supporters, and ensure contributions translate into improved security on the streets.
He noted that partnerships over the years have enabled investments in patrol vehicles, communication equipment, bulletproof vests, marine assets, training for personnel, and other essential tools for law enforcement.
He also thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the confidence reposed in him, describing his appointment as a call to service. Ogunsan emphasized the need to embrace innovation, strengthen collaboration, and ensure swift, modern, and people-centered responses to emerging security challenges.
The #EndSARS movement began as peaceful demonstrations against alleged brutality by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad but later escalated into violent clashes across Lagos. The unrest resulted in the destruction of police stations, courts, and other public buildings, leaving critical security gaps.
The rebuilding initiative is expected to restore damaged infrastructure and enhance the capacity of the police to safeguard communities across Lagos State.
