Lagos Police Arrest Guard for Abducting Two-Year-Old, Demanding N5m Ransom

The suspect, who has confessed to the crime, remains in custody and will be charged in court after investigations.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a security guard, Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area and demanding N5 million ransom from the victim’s family.

The incident was reported by the toddler’s mother on September 21 after Kini allegedly fled with the child and a mobile phone belonging to the family. Police said the suspect later used the phone to contact the father, insisting on payment for the boy’s release.

Lagos Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the case, noting that swift investigations and surveillance led to the suspect’s arrest on September 23. “The operatives sustained operational pressure through intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance, which forced the suspect to release the child. He was later tracked and arrested at his hideout within the Elemoro area,” Adebisi said.

The suspect, who has confessed to the crime, remains in custody and will be charged in court after investigations. Police also detained Aruna Dauda, who stood as guarantor for Kini at the time of his employment, for questioning.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the abduction and assured Lagosians of the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes. He urged parents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly via the command’s emergency hotlines: 08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678.
