The Lagos State Government has commenced clearance operations along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway to remove illegal structures and restore free flow of traffic.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Monday via his X handle. He revealed that the exercise began at Alakija in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area and has since progressed through Iyana Iba, continuing opposite Lagos State University (LASU), with active enforcement also underway at Alaba Market in Ojo Local Government Area.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (@LAGESCOfficial), in collaboration with other enforcement teams of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, have commenced clearance operations at Alakija,” Wahab said. “The operation has since progressed through Iyana Iba and is currently ongoing opposite Lagos State University (LASU), with active enforcement at Alaba Market along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.”
The clearance exercise follows a series of similar enforcement actions across Lagos in late 2025, including operations along Jakande Coastal Road and the arrest of beggars on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Wahab emphasized that the initiative forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation, enhance traffic flow, and ensure compliance with urban planning and environmental regulations along the busy expressway.
