Israel continues to restrict Palestinian movement through the Rafah crossing, allowing only 16 individuals to enter Egypt for medical treatment on Tuesday, far below the 50 permitted in each direction, according to Israeli officials.

A day earlier, just five Palestinians were allowed to leave Gaza, while 12 were allowed to return. Egyptian officials had previously reported that about 150 people were scheduled to leave the territory on Monday, with 50 expected to enter.

“There is no explanation as to why crossings are being delayed at Rafah,” said Khoudary, a local rights observer. “The process is taking extremely long.”

The Rafah crossing, Gaza’s sole gateway to the outside world that does not pass through Israel, has been largely closed since Israeli forces seized control in May 2024.

The limited access continues to affect patients seeking urgent medical care, further straining the humanitarian situation in the territory.
