An Iranian missile barrage killed two people near Tel Aviv on Wednesday, while shrapnel from the strikes disrupted train services, authorities and medics said.
The overnight attacks hit multiple sites across central Israel, triggering air raid sirens, following heavy Israeli bombardments in Iran and Lebanon. The latest fatalities bring the death toll in Israel from missile attacks since the Middle East conflict began late last month to 14.
Dean Elsdunne reported that a residential building in Ramat Gan was struck by a cluster munition, collapsing the roof on an elderly couple who did not reach a safe room in time.
“Unfortunately, this couple did not go to the safe room when the alarm sounded, and as a result, we have this unfortunate tragedy,” Elsdunne said.
Cluster munitions, which both Iran and Israel have previously accused each other of using, explode mid-air and scatter bomblets over wide areas, causing extensive damage.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic. One resident, Omer, said, “We heard like a streak of booms… it was not just one, it was a splitting missile.” AFP footage from the site showed rubble-strewn streets with police, rescuers, and military personnel on the scene.
Magen David Adom confirmed that two people were found dead and that a man in Bnei Brak was lightly injured by shrapnel.
The missile barrage underscores the escalating violence in the region, with civilian areas in Israel increasingly at risk amid ongoing strikes and counter-strikes.
