INEC Releases Final Register of Voters for Edo and Ondo Governorship Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final register of voters for the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, according to an official announcement.

Mr. Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday that the registers were sanctioned at the commission’s meeting.

Olumekun reported that the new register integrates recently registered voters from the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and includes figures from successful transfer applicants from other states.

In Edo, out of 2,629,025 registered voters, 1,370,061 (52.11%) are male and 1,258,964 (47.89%) are female. Youths aged 18 to 35 constitute 37.4% (983,133) of the voters, and middle-aged persons (36 to 49 years) account for 914,806 voters. Combined, these groups represent 72.2% of the electorate.

The occupational distribution in Edo shows that students make up 33.05% (868,764) of voters, and Persons with Disability (PWD) account for 0.16% (4,199). The new register marks a 4.9% increase over the 2023 General Elections figure of 2,501,081.

For Ondo, there are now 2,053,061 registered voters, with 1,034,006 (50.36%) male and 1,034,964 (47.89%) female. Youths (18-35 years) make up 35.41% (726,944) and middle-aged persons (36-49 years) 35.17% (721,982), together constituting 70.57% of the voters.

In Ondo, students represent 33.85% (694,938) of voters, and PWDs account for 0.09% (1,782). The new register is a 3.0% increase from the 2023 General Elections figure of 1,191,344.

Olumekun stated that the detailed register breakdown by Local Government Areas, gender, age, occupation, and disability has been uploaded to the INEC website and social media platforms for public access.
