The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the receipt of 10 additional letters of intent from groups seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of pending applications to 144.
This was disclosed in a statement issued Thursday by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.
“The Commission has received 10 more letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the number so far to 144,” Olumekun said.
He noted that details of the new associations—including their names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leaderships—have been published on INEC’s official website and platforms for public awareness.
The Commission had earlier revealed on June 25 that it had received 110 applications. With the latest additions, 34 more applications have come in, and the Commission is currently reviewing them to determine compliance with registration requirements.
INEC also announced the completion of a new digital party registration portal developed internally by its ICT department.
“As is the case with all our IT innovations, the new portal has been demonstrated before the Commission and approved for deployment,” Olumekun said.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and pledged to keep the public regularly updated as the registration process progresses.
