Imo LG Polls: Governor Uzodinma Denies Endorsing Any Aspirants

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has refuted claims that he has endorsed specific aspirants for the upcoming local government elections in the state. The governor’s denial comes amid growing speculations and reports suggesting that he had thrown his weight behind certain candidates vying for positions in the local councils.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, Governor Uzodinma clarified that he has not endorsed any aspirants for the local government polls scheduled to take place later this year. He emphasized that his administration remains committed to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process in line with democratic principles.

“The Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma, has not endorsed any aspirants for the forthcoming local government elections in the state,” the statement read. “Governor Uzodinma is focused on creating an enabling environment for all candidates to participate on an equal footing, without undue interference or favoritism.”

The governor’s denial comes as political tension builds in the state, with various factions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) jostling for control of the local government councils. The alleged endorsements had sparked concerns among party members and the general public, with some fearing that the governor’s backing could influence the outcome of the elections and undermine the credibility of the process.

Governor Uzodinma used the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the voices of the electorate are heard. He urged all aspirants to focus on engaging with their communities and presenting their plans and visions for the development of their respective local government areas.

“The forthcoming local government elections are a crucial opportunity for the people of Imo State to elect leaders who will represent their interests at the grassroots level. It is imperative that the process is conducted in a manner that reflects the will of the people,” Uzodinma stated.

He also called on party leaders, stakeholders, and aspirants to work together to maintain peace and unity within the party, cautioning against actions that could lead to division or discord. The governor assured that his administration would not interfere in the electoral process but would instead provide the necessary support to the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) to conduct credible elections.

The Imo State local government elections are seen as a significant event, as they will determine the leadership of the 27 local government areas in the state. These councils play a vital role in the administration of grassroots governance and the implementation of development projects.

Governor Uzodinma’s denial of endorsements is expected to calm tensions within the party and among the aspirants. However, it remains to be seen how the various factions within the APC will navigate the electoral process and whether the governor’s assurance of neutrality will be maintained as the elections draw closer.

As the election date approaches, political observers and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the process unfolds and whether the promises of a transparent and fair election will be realized in Imo State.
