Imo Governor Orders 72-Hour Removal of Tinted Glasses from Commercial Vehicles

Governor Uzodimma cites rising insecurity and criminal activities linked to tinted commercial buses as reason for swift action.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to all commercial drivers operating vehicles with tinted glasses to remove them or face strict penalties.

The directive, announced through his Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, follows intelligence reports connecting tinted commercial vehicles—especially buses—to a wave of criminal activity in the state.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the clampdown on all tinted vehicles used for commercial activities in the state,” the statement read.
“Reports indicate these vehicles are being used to perpetrate kidnapping, armed robbery, and hit-and-run crimes across Imo State.”

Security concerns have grown as passengers report abductions and attacks, often involving buses with obscured windows. The new order is aimed at curbing such incidents and restoring public confidence in commercial transportation.

To ensure compliance, Governor Uzodimma has directed security agencies to collaborate with government officials in enforcing the law.

“The Governor has advised security agencies to work with select government officials to halt the menace and prosecute any defaulters who ignore the 72-hour grace period,” the statement added.
The clampdown is expected to begin immediately after the deadline, with commercial drivers facing legal consequences if found in violation.
