Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has addressed rumours suggesting he is estranged from his children with his first wife, May Edochie, saying he maintains a close and active relationship with them.
Amid ongoing divorce proceedings, reports had circulated that the actor had abandoned his children. The legal process has reportedly faced delays due to disagreements over the terms of the marriage dissolution, including remarriage rights and allegations of adultery.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Edochie clarified that he keeps in regular contact with his kids and continues to support them financially. He also highlighted his children’s achievements, including one of his sons recently gaining admission into university, as evidence of their ongoing bond.
He criticized social media narratives around his family, describing them as speculative and disconnected from reality. According to the actor, his silence and lack of posts featuring his children are due to a court order linked to the divorce case, which restricts public discussion or display of matters concerning the children for their safety.
Edochie said:
“I am in contact with my children. I have heard a lot of things about people saying ‘he abandoned his children.’ My second son just got into university months ago. He did his matriculation a few days back, and he told me a day before, and I told him I was busy.
The people here on social media are just one per cent of the truth. The real things happening in people’s homes do not even come out on social media. Everything people say is speculation. Someone comes up with something and blows it out of proportion. There is also a court order. There is a divorce case going on. That is why I cannot really speak. Anything that has to do with the children, for their own safety, I should not post.”
Yul Edochie’s comments aim to set the record straight, emphasizing that his absence from social media does not indicate a lack of involvement or care for his children.
