Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract with the club, ensuring he remains at Old Trafford for at least another season. The deal, which includes an option for a further year, comes as the 33-year-old centre-back was approaching the final months of his previous contract.
Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City in an £80 million ($106 million) transfer in 2019, said he is proud to extend his tenure at the club to at least eight seasons.
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire said. “It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.”
The defender added: “You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see, and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
Since former caretaker manager Michael Carrick took charge, Maguire has been ever-present for United, helping the team rise to third place in the Premier League and secure a return to the Champions League.
His strong performances also earned him an England recall last month, marking his first international appearances in 18 months. Maguire featured in both friendlies at Wembley Stadium, putting himself in contention for a spot at this year’s FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Maguire has made 266 appearances for United, winning the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at the club.
United director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s professionalism and leadership. “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad. He is completely determined to help the club achieve regular and sustained success,” Wilcox said.
Maguire is currently with the squad in Dublin for a training camp during a three-and-a-half-week break in league fixtures. Manchester United will return to Premier League action against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday, April 13.
