GTBank Increases SMS Alert Fee to ₦6 Starting May 1

Customers informed of new charges as telecom rate hike affects transaction alert services.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced an upward review of the fee charged for SMS transaction alerts. Beginning Thursday, May 1, 2025, the new rate will be ₦6 per message, up from the previous ₦4.

The bank shared this update in a message sent to customers on Wednesday.

“Dear valued customer, please be informed that effective Thursday, May 1, 2025, the SMS transaction alert fee will increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message,” the notice read.

GTBank explained that the adjustment became necessary following an increase in telecom service rates. According to the bank, the change aligns with new pricing from telecommunications providers.

In its message, the bank stressed the continued relevance of SMS alerts in helping customers monitor their accounts and detect suspicious activity in real time.

“Transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account,” it stated.

However, GTBank also offered customers the flexibility to opt out of SMS notifications. Those who prefer alternative alert methods, such as email, can update their preferences.

“If you prefer not to receive transaction alerts via SMS, you can update your preferences by completing the transaction alert form on our website and sending it to gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com,” the message added.

The bank encouraged users seeking more information or assistance to reach out through its customer service helplines.
