Governor Mutfwang Vows Action to Curb Killings in Plateau State

Expanded security meeting held as over 100 people killed in two weeks of violence across Plateau communities.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has pledged that his administration is taking all necessary measures to prevent further loss of life, following a disturbing wave of attacks that have claimed over 100 lives in just two weeks.

In a post via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the governor condemned the continued violence and disclosed that an expanded security council meeting was held on Monday, with key security chiefs and local government chairmen in attendance.

The urgent meeting came in response to a deadly overnight attack on April 14, when armed assailants stormed a community in Bassa Local Government Area, unleashing widespread destruction.

“At around midnight, into the early hours of today, over a hundred bandits descended on one of the communities in Bassa local government area, leaving behind a trail of destruction, numerous lives lost, and several houses destroyed,” Governor Mutfwang wrote.

He confirmed that detailed briefings were received from various heads of security agencies, and that steps are being taken to strengthen intelligence gathering and protect vulnerable communities.

“We are committed to protecting the sources of information, ensuring that no life is at jeopardy,” he added. “By God’s grace, we are working to strengthen our capacity for intelligence gathering.”

Governor Mutfwang also expressed condolences to grieving families, praying for comfort and healing in the wake of the attacks.

The Plateau State government has come under increasing pressure to address rising insecurity, as rural communities continue to suffer from relentless violence by unidentified gunmen.
