Governor Fubara Vows Full Implementation of Supreme Court Judgment on Rivers Crisis

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara reaffirms his commitment to enforcing the Supreme Court ruling and highlights the importance of peace over personal interests.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has publicly committed to the full implementation of the recent Supreme Court judgment regarding the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Fubara’s statement came during the inauguration of the new Judges’ Quarters housing project, a facility built for judges who are indigenous to the state, either by birth or marriage.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt, also served as an opportunity for the governor to address the critical issues affecting the state’s governance and political environment.

Governor Fubara made it clear that his administration is determined to uphold the Supreme Court’s decision, emphasizing that the interest of Rivers State comes before any personal interests. His unwavering stance highlights the importance of maintaining peace and order in the state amidst political tensions.

Speaking at the inauguration, Fubara reiterated that his primary focus as governor has always been the protection of Rivers State’s interests. He expressed frustration over the prolonged political crisis, which has persisted for over 16 months. However, he stressed that such challenges must not overshadow the need to put the state’s well-being first.

In a bold statement, the governor declared, “The Supreme Court has given a judgment, and my administration is going to implement the judgment to its fullest.

The reason is clear: it is not about me, it is about the good of this State.” His words reflect his determination to end the political turmoil and focus on the overall development and peace of the state.

Fubara acknowledged the significant financial costs that both sides of the political dispute had incurred during the crisis, pointing out that these resources would have been better spent on projects that contribute positively to the state’s growth. He lamented that, instead of constructive progress, precious resources had been wasted on a conflict that could have been avoided.

Governor Fubara’s remarks also served as a call for peace and unity, with the governor emphasizing that the true cost of the political crisis is far greater than any financial expenditure. He expressed that no price is too high for the sake of lasting peace in the state.

Fubara said, “I have not gone back on my statement: that nothing is too big to pay for peace in this State. At the end of the day, it is about our people. It is not about me. I will leave office, but the good work that I have done will speak for me and will defend my generation.”

His commitment to securing peace and fostering unity underlines his belief that the people of Rivers State deserve a stable environment in which they can thrive.

In addition to addressing the political crisis, Fubara took the opportunity to highlight the completion of the Judges’ Quarters project, which was initially inherited from the previous administration. This housing facility, built in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt, was designed to improve the welfare of judicial officers in Rivers State.

The governor emphasized that his administration takes the welfare of judicial officers seriously. He noted that reports from the Ministry of Justice and feedback from the judiciary made it necessary to continue the project.

He expressed satisfaction with the completion of the facility, saying, “We give glory to God that today, we have completed this project, and we are willing and ready to hand it over to the lucky judges who are going to live here so that they can perform their duties effectively.”

By prioritizing the welfare of the judiciary, Fubara reinforced his administration’s commitment to the rule of law and the proper functioning of the state’s judicial system.

Governor Fubara’s pledge to fully implement the Supreme Court’s judgment signals his dedication to bringing an end to the political crisis in Rivers State. His focus on peace and the well-being of the people underscores the importance of putting the state’s interests above political disputes.

As the Judges’ Quarters project is handed over and Fubara continues his efforts to stabilize the political environment, the governor’s leadership will be closely watched to see how effectively he can navigate the challenges ahead. His ability to restore peace and ensure that the Supreme Court’s ruling is implemented will determine the state’s future trajectory and its political stability.
