The Bauchi State Government has approved the release of N872 million as counterpart funding to support the state’s primary healthcare (PHC) sector, reinforcing its dedication to expanding access to quality healthcare services.
Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy Auwal Jatau, made the announcement on Tuesday during a meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare and an award presentation ceremony held at the Government House banquet hall in Bauchi.
Jatau disclosed that out of the total approved funds, N261,708,491 has already been released to the Bauchi PHC Board. He emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and supporting frontline health workers.
“We are focused on ensuring that every citizen—regardless of location or status—has access to the healthcare services they deserve,” Jatau stated.
He praised the tireless efforts of health workers, local government health teams, facility managers, and community volunteers for their crucial roles in improving healthcare delivery across the state.
“Your dedication is the backbone of our progress in primary healthcare,” he added. “Today’s awards are just a token of our immense appreciation.”
The Deputy Governor reassured attendees that the Bala Mohammed administration will continue to prioritize healthcare funding in its mission to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) across the state.
Jatau also extended gratitude to development partners for their technical and financial contributions, which he said have significantly strengthened the state’s healthcare system. He called for renewed collaboration to build a healthier Bauchi.
On his part, Emir of Dass and Co-Chair of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare, Usman Bilyaminu, expressed appreciation for the progress made in implementing various health initiatives in the state.
