The headquarters of Ghana’s United Nations peacekeeping battalion in Lebanon was struck by missile attacks on Friday, leaving two soldiers critically injured, according to a statement from Ghana’s armed forces.

The incident comes as Lebanon has been drawn into the intensifying Middle East war, following rocket attacks by Hezbollah on Israel earlier this week, which triggered a new Israeli military offensive.

Ghanaian troops are deployed in Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission.

The armed forces statement did not specify the origin of the missile fire but noted that Ghana’s foreign ministry had formally protested the attack at U.N. Headquarters in New York.

In addition to the two soldiers who sustained critical injuries, another peacekeeper was reported to have suffered trauma. The attack also destroyed the officers’ mess facility, which was hit and burned down during the strike.

The incident underscores the risks faced by UN peacekeepers operating in conflict zones and highlights the growing regional tensions affecting Lebanon and its neighbors.
