The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has congratulated acclaimed actresses and filmmakers Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham for the remarkable box office performances of their latest films.

Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scene (BTS) has reportedly grossed over ₦2.4 billion at the Nigerian box office and continues to draw strong audience turnout nationwide. The NFVCB described the achievement as a landmark moment for Nigerian cinema, reinforcing Akindele’s status as one of the industry’s most influential and commercially successful figures.

In a statement issued by Executive Director/CEO Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the Board highlighted Akindele’s sustained box office dominance, noting that she has delivered record-breaking cinema performances for four consecutive years.

“This level of consistency reflects not only creative excellence but also a deep understanding of audience engagement and the evolving dynamics of film production, distribution, and exhibition in Nigeria,” the statement read.

In recognition of her achievements, the NFVCB announced plans to formally honour Funke Akindele with a Box Office Queen Award for 2023, 2024, and 2025. The award presentation will include the Honourable Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, alongside top female executives from the sector.

Meanwhile, Toyin Abraham has also been commended for her directorial debut, Oversabi Auntie, which has grossed over ₦1 billion nationwide. The Board noted that the film’s performance places it among the four highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time, marking a successful entry for Abraham into film directing.

“The success of Oversabi Auntie underscores Ms. Abraham’s versatility and growing creative influence, as well as the expanding possibilities for filmmakers redefining storytelling and audience connection in contemporary Nollywood,” Dr. Husseini stated.

The NFVCB concluded by celebrating both filmmakers’ achievements as strong indicators of Nollywood’s continued growth, resilience, and global promise.
