The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has inaugurated a five-man committee to reconcile the two factions within the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN), urging the members to approach their task with diligence, fairness, and unity.
The committee, chaired by Alhaji Mohammed Sherif, was officially inaugurated on Monday, October 7, 2025, at the FTAN National Secretariat in Abuja.
In his remarks, FTAN President, Dr. Aliyu Badaki, expressed appreciation to the committee members for accepting to serve, describing the assignment as a crucial step toward strengthening both the Federation and the tourism industry as a whole.
Dr. Badaki noted that the members were carefully selected by the National Executive Council and ratified by the Governing Council based on their vast experience and integrity as veterans in the tourism sector.
He emphasized that resolving the ATPN crisis was essential for the collective progress and credibility of the tourism industry.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Sherif thanked the FTAN leadership for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to carry out the assignment conscientiously and without bias.
“The tourism industry belongs to all of us, and it is our shared responsibility to protect and strengthen it,” Sherif said, appealing to all parties in the dispute to set aside their differences and cooperate with the committee to ensure a smooth reconciliation process.
Other members of the committee pledged their full support to the chairman and reaffirmed their commitment to a transparent and inclusive mediation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by FTAN members in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Federation’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Magaji, who administered the oath of office to the committee members.
