FTAN and NTDA Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost Nigerian Tourism

New MoU and collaborative initiatives aim to reclaim Nigeria’s place in global tourism markets.

Nigeria’s tourism sector is set for a new era of growth as the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) and the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) pledge strategic collaboration to achieve shared goals.

As part of this partnership, NTDA will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FTAN for the joint marketing of Nigeria across international channels, aiming to restore the country’s visibility in global tourism markets.

The development follows a strategic meeting between FTAN President Dr. Aliyu Badaki and NTDA Director General Olayiwola Awakan, who recently assumed office. Badaki said the visit was intended to strengthen collaboration and advance shared goals for Nigeria’s tourism industry.

He commended NTDA for its consistent partnership with FTAN and emphasized that the new DG’s tenure would take the relationship to new heights, opening new frontiers for the sector.

Badaki also highlighted the importance of the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition (NTIFE 2025) scheduled for November 28 in Abuja, to which Awakan has been invited as Special Guest of Honour.

The First Deputy President of FTAN, Mrs. Susan Akporiaye, stressed that FTAN is committed to promoting and marketing Nigerian tourism internationally.

She said the MoU, to be formally signed at NTIFE 2025, will strengthen joint marketing efforts and ensure active representation at global travel markets and exhibitions. Akporiaye also recommended a joint committee to plan and implement agreed marketing strategies effectively.

In his remarks, DG Awakan appreciated FTAN’s visit, noting his long-standing association with the federation. He reaffirmed his commitment to deepening collaboration with the private sector, emphasizing that tourism is a private sector-driven industry.

He confirmed his readiness to sign the MoU at NTIFE 2025 and highlighted that Nigeria’s rich tourism opportunities must be harnessed through sustained cooperation between government agencies and industry stakeholders.

The partnership is expected to enhance Nigeria’s global tourism profile, attract investment, and strengthen public-private collaboration in developing the sector.
