The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a road traffic crash linked to distracted driving.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of reckless road use among celebrities, influencers, and content creators, warning that such behavior endangers lives and undermines national road safety efforts.

The announcement follows a viral video showing Peller live streaming while driving, an act the FRSC said reportedly led to a crash. “The incident serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behavior on public roads,” Mohammed stated.

He emphasised that live streaming, content creation, or any activity that distracts a driver is a direct violation of traffic regulations and poses serious risks to both the driver and other road users. The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC has been directed to commence prosecution against Peller for reckless driving, use of a phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with existing traffic laws.

Mohammed also called on entertainment industry bodies, including actors’ guilds and influencer associations, to promote responsible conduct among their members, highlighting the influence celebrities wield over young Nigerians.

“No social media content, online trend or momentary clout is worth a human life,” the corps marshal warned, reiterating the FRSC’s zero-tolerance stance on reckless driving. He urged Nigerians to report dangerous driving behavior and support efforts to make highways safer.
