The Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has unveiled a scholarship scheme for more than 1,000 indigent students seeking admission into Havilla University in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Each scholarship is valued at N400,000 and is part of activities marking her second anniversary as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution.

Tinubu-Ojo confirmed the scholarship award on Tuesday shortly after the ceremony commemorating her two years in office as the university’s Pro-Chancellor. She said the initiative reflects her commitment to youth empowerment and educational development in Nigeria.

“As the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Havilla University, this initiative reflects my commitment to youth empowerment and educational advancement,” she said.

Tinubu-Ojo described education as the “only leveller between the rich and the poor in society,” stressing that every Nigerian youth deserves access to quality education to secure a brighter future for the nation.

She also expressed appreciation to the university’s Governing Council and the Chancellor, Jones Tangban, for their leadership, noting that their efforts have helped position Havilla University among Africa’s leading institutions.

In his remarks, Tangban commended Tinubu-Ojo for the scholarship initiative, describing it as a generous contribution toward educational development.

“Even though the scholarships are personally funded, this gesture aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Earlier during the event, several state-of-the-art facilities were inaugurated at the university. Among them was the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Complex, while the foundation stone was also laid for the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Centre for Vocational Studies within the university premises.

The scholarship programme is expected to provide financial support for underprivileged students and expand access to higher education across the country.
