FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has announced its sponsorship of the Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025, introducing a major innovation set to redefine the spectator experience at Africa’s biggest street carnival. The Bank has unveiled the first-ever private 500-seater premium bleacher, a landmark addition designed to offer enhanced comfort, safety and an elevated viewing experience for carnival enthusiasts.

The announcement, made in Lagos on December 26, 2025, underscores FirstBank’s long-standing commitment to supporting Nigeria’s creative economy and cultural heritage. The premium bleacher, which will be strategically positioned along the carnival route, represents a significant upgrade in event infrastructure and audience engagement.
Speaking on the sponsorship, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, said the partnership aligns with the Bank’s First@Arts initiative, a platform dedicated to nurturing the creative arts value chain across Nigeria.
“We recognise the transformative power of the arts, including carnivals, in inspiring people and strengthening national unity,” Ijabiyi said. “For more than 131 years, FirstBank has supported platforms that promote self-expression, social reflection and cultural exchange. Our investment in the Carnival Calabar & Festival demonstrates our commitment to preserving the nation’s rich cultural heritage through First@Arts.”
He explained that the introduction of the premium bleacher is aimed at raising the bar for carnival experiences in Nigeria.
“As part of our sponsorship this year, we are introducing the first-ever private 500-seater premium bleacher to further elevate the carnival experience. This exclusive seating is designed to provide exceptional comfort and an unforgettable viewing experience for attendees,” he added.
The move has been welcomed by the organisers of the Carnival Calabar, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most colourful cultural showcases, attracting thousands of local and international visitors annually.
Commenting on the development, Gabe Onah, Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Calabar Commission, described FirstBank’s involvement as a strong signal of private-sector confidence in Nigeria’s cultural and tourism potential.
“FirstBank’s involvement is a strong demonstration of private-sector support for culture and tourism. This partnership not only enhances the overall quality of the carnival but also strengthens its global appeal,” Onah said.
The Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025 is officially marketed by Okhma Global Limited, the appointed official marketer responsible for brand partnerships, promotional engagements and ticket sales. The company has worked closely with the Cross River State Government for over a decade, playing a pivotal role in expanding the carnival’s commercial footprint and boosting its international visibility.
With FirstBank’s premium bleacher initiative, the 2025 edition of Carnival Calabar is expected to deliver a more refined and inclusive experience, blending culture, creativity and comfort, while reinforcing the carnival’s position as a flagship tourism and cultural event in Africa.
