The Federal Government has announced plans to collaborate with the Kaduna State Government on the development of light rail projects across the state.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, during a courtesy visit by the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, to the ministry.
Alkali underscored the critical role of transportation in driving economic growth, stating that no country can improve its GDP without accessible and affordable transportation systems.
He assured Governor Sani of full support from the ministry, promising swift action on the Kaduna light rail project.
“The Permanent Secretary will set up an engagement committee comprising officials from the ministry, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), and the Kaduna State Government,” Alkali said.
He added that the committee would produce a design report for the project within two weeks.
Governor Sani praised the minister’s efforts in revitalising Nigeria’s railway sector. He also noted that solving transport issues would help reduce unemployment and boost national productivity.
