The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of Workers’ Day across the country.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The minister highlighted the critical role peace plays in fostering industrialization and economic development in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their commitment and sacrifice. He said their efforts contribute significantly to national progress and global respect for Nigeria.
“The dignity of labor must be upheld,” the minister stated, encouraging all workers to adopt innovation and productivity in their work.
He further urged workers to raise professional standards to strengthen governance and promote equitable distribution of the nation’s resources.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also reassured the public of the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety and security of all citizens. He expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, affirming that the administration remains focused on improving the lives of Nigerians.
The minister concluded by wishing all workers a joyful and peaceful Workers’ Day celebration and called on citizens to remain hopeful about the country’s future.
