The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled plans for a new road project designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth across several states. The fourth road project, which will pass through the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe corridor, was announced by the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. Nweze David Umahi, during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Bauchi State at the State Government House on Wednesday.
During his visit, Minister Umahi expressed his gratitude to the Bauchi State Government for its efforts in maintaining and improving the road infrastructure within the state. He highlighted that the road project is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader initiative to address infrastructure shortfalls and ensure equitable road distribution across the country.
“I want to thank you very highly and to let you know that President Tinubu did not do the shortfall in terms of road distribution, I didn’t do it, but Mr. President is addressing it, and that’s why we have injected the fourth legacy project of the President that runs from Akwanga to Jos to Bauchi State,” Umahi stated. He praised the Bauchi State Government for its progressive and critical interventions on a significant portion of the roads within the state.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, the Minister emphasized that President Tinubu’s legacy projects are strategically designed not only to provide seamless connectivity across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones but also to serve as a cornerstone for the nation’s economic development. These projects aim to boost key sectors such as agriculture, job creation, regional integration, tourism, transportation, and industrialization.
Observers say the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road project will play a crucial role in enhancing the transportation ecosystem, facilitating the movement of goods and people, and contributing to the overall economic vitality of the region as the new road project is a vital component of the national development strategy as it promises to deliver lasting benefits to the people and businesses along its route.
