Federal Government Launches BisonFly Project to Cut Air Travel Costs

New digital platform aims to boost transparency, secure discounts, and promote fiscal efficiency in public sector travel.

The Federal Government has launched the BisonFly Project, a new digital initiative aimed at reducing air travel costs for the Federal Civil Service. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, inaugurated the project in Abuja.

BisonFly will integrate booking tools with a centralized platform. This approach will ensure greater efficiency, transparency, and savings in official travel. The system is expected to go live in the coming months.

Minister Edun explained that BisonFly will help the government manage resources better. He stated, “By coordinating travel and securing discounts, we will use the government’s collective bargaining power. This will reduce spending and improve service delivery, just like global institutions such as the World Bank have done successfully.”

The project is developed by the Ministry’s Efficiency Unit, in collaboration with ICT advisers and key government stakeholders. A dedicated team will oversee the project’s rollout and ensure it delivers measurable results.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Raymond Omachi, praised the initiative. He called it “a model for fiscal responsibility across the public service and beyond.”

Minister Edun emphasized the urgency of the project. He urged the implementation team to ensure its success and highlighted its importance for the government’s financial goals.
