Federal Government Approves Over N820 Billion for Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway and Bodo-Bonny Road Rehabilitation

Funding aims to enhance critical infrastructure as the government prioritizes road development projects.

The federal government has approved more than N820 billion for the rehabilitation of the crucial Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway and the completion of the Bodo-Bonny road in Opobo, Rivers State.

The announcement was made in Abuja by Uchenna Orji, spokesperson for the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

During a recent meeting with representatives from Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, including Executive Director of Projects Benjamin Bott and Head of Contract Management Omonigho Brown, Umahi emphasized the urgency of fast-tracking the rehabilitation of these major infrastructure projects.

He highlighted the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) decision during its meeting on September 23, 2024, which included the re-scoping and downward review of the contract for the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway.

In addition, the council revised the estimated total cost and augmentation of the contract for the construction of the Bodo-Bonny road, which includes bridges across the Opobo channel, designated as contract No. 6247.

The approval of this significant funding underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing critical road infrastructure, which is vital for economic growth and connectivity across the nation.

As the rehabilitation progresses, stakeholders will be closely monitoring the impact on local communities and the overall transport network.
