Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest network operating carrier and one of the world’s fastest-growing airline brands, has officially launched a new passenger service to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
The inaugural flight took off on June 1, 2025, marking a major milestone in the airline’s global expansion efforts.
The new route will operate four times a week, providing increased connectivity between Sharjah and the broader Ethiopian Airlines network.
The launch was celebrated with a colorful ceremony attended by ambassadors, senior UAE and Ethiopian government officials, and top executives from the airline.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said,
“We are truly delighted to connect our passengers to an additional getaway in the UAE with our new flights to Sharjah. We have been connecting the UAE and Africa for nearly five decades now and the new service will help boost investment, tourism, diplomatic and socioeconomic bonds between the two regions.”
Sharjah, the third-largest emirate in the UAE, is known for its rich cultural heritage, booming business environment, and growing tourism appeal.
Already a hub for Ethiopian Airlines’ cargo services, the city now becomes the airline’s second passenger destination in the UAE after Dubai.
The service is expected to facilitate trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Africa and the Middle East. Passengers can expect a seamless travel experience backed by Ethiopian Airlines’ world-class service and modern fleet.
Sharjah’s growing reputation as an educational, industrial, and tourism center further positions it as a strategic destination for international travelers and investors. With direct flights now available, Ethiopian Airlines continues to bridge Africa with the rest of the world, one city at a time.
