Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest and one of the world’s fastest-growing carriers, has officially launched a new daily passenger service connecting Addis Ababa to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The inaugural flight was celebrated with a vibrant event at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, attended by key dignitaries including Lt. Gen. Yilma Merdassa, Chairman of the Board, and Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, alongside UAE Embassy officials and senior government representatives.
“The launch of our new service to Abu Dhabi reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic commitment to connecting Africa with the world,” said Mr. Mesfin Tasew. “Our collaboration with Etihad Airways will boost trade, tourism, and investment between our nations, while enhancing convenience for passengers.”
The Addis Ababa–Abu Dhabi route expands Ethiopian Airlines’ footprint in the Gulf region, where it already operates over 100 weekly passenger flights to 13 destinations.
With this addition, Ethiopian Airlines now serves four airports in three UAE cities:
- Dubai International Airport (DXB)
- Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) – Cargo
- Sharjah International Airport
- Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi
This service forms part of a landmark joint venture agreement between Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation and expanding route networks between Africa and the Middle East.
In June 2025, Ethiopian also launched a new four-times-weekly service to Sharjah, further reinforcing its strategic growth in the UAE.
The airline reaffirmed its mission to connect Africa with the world, through world-class service, expansive networks, and transformative partnerships that drive regional and global growth.
