An entrepreneur from Ikorodu, Prince Segun Shonubi, has called on privileged Nigerians to complement government efforts in youth empowerment, particularly in the area of education.

Shonubi made the appeal while presenting free application forms for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination to over 300 indigent students within Ikorodu and its environs.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the initiative was fully financed by the entrepreneur. It was designed to ease the financial burden faced by families struggling to afford the cost of registering their children for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The symbolic presentation brought together beneficiaries, parents, community stakeholders, youth leaders and well-wishers. Many described the gesture as timely and impactful.

The atmosphere at the event was filled with gratitude and renewed optimism. Several students expressed excitement at being given the opportunity to pursue higher education without financial hindrance.

Speaking on his motivation, Shonubi reiterated his belief that education remains a powerful tool for personal transformation and community development. He noted that investing in young people is directly tied to the growth and progress of any nation.

“Our young people carry the future of this community in their hands,” he said. “When financial constraints threaten to limit their dreams, we must step in. This is not just about paying for forms; it is about restoring confidence and keeping hope alive.”

He explained that in many homes, the JAMB registration fee often represents a significant hurdle that can delay or completely halt a student’s academic journey. With interventions like this, he said, such barriers are removed and students are better positioned to pursue their educational aspirations.

Parents of the beneficiaries described the support as a major relief, especially amid prevailing economic challenges. Some admitted they had been uncertain about how to raise the registration fees before the intervention came as an unexpected blessing.

Community leaders at the event commended Shonubi for demonstrating responsible citizenship and grassroots impact. They noted that sponsoring over 300 students reflects not only generosity but also a strategic investment in human capital development.

Education advocates also observed that such interventions have far-reaching effects. Each supported student, they said, represents a potential professional, entrepreneur, innovator or leader who will contribute meaningfully to society.

As the beneficiaries prepare to sit for their examinations, there is growing hope that the opportunity will translate into academic success stories that will uplift Ikorodu and inspire others to invest in the next generation.
