Emir of Kano Cancels Eid-el-Fitr Durbar Celebration

The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, has announced the cancellation of the traditional Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to growing security concerns in the state. The decision came after consultations with respected Islamic clerics, elders, and members of his council.

Prioritizing Peace Over Festivities

Emir Bayero made the announcement during a briefing at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano on Wednesday night. He emphasized that the safety and peaceful coexistence of the people of Kano are more important than the Durbar celebration, which was initially planned to coincide with his fifth anniversary on the throne.

Advice from Elders and Stakeholders

In a statement, the Emir acknowledged the advice from various stakeholders, including clerics and community leaders, urging him to prioritize peace over the festivity. He expressed his commitment to maintaining harmony and peace in the state during the Sallah period.

Urging Peaceful Celebrations

Despite the cancellation of the Durbar, Emir Bayero encouraged the people of Kano to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr by spending time with their families and friends. He urged them to observe the occasion in a peaceful and harmonious manner, focusing on unity and goodwill.

A Prayer for Blessings and Forgiveness

Emir Bayero also prayed for Allah’s blessings and mercy during the month of Ramadan. He hoped that the people of Kano would receive forgiveness and mercy as they mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid celebrations.
