The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters arrested at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, almost all the suspects were indicted during profiling for alleged offences bordering on impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
The arraignment, scheduled in batches, follows their arrest at a pool party organised to celebrate. The EFCC said intelligence indicated the party was initially planned for two other locations but was moved to the OOPL hotel in an attempt to evade detection.
Oyewale stressed that the OOPL itself was not a target of the operation.
“The suspects were the targets and have confessed to their involvement in internet crimes,” the statement read, adding that the arraignment of the remaining suspects will follow shortly.
The EFCC alleged that the suspects relocated the party to the OOPL facility believing it would shield them from law enforcement intervention.
