Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has dismissed speculation linking him with the vacant Manchester United job, insisting he is “very happy” at St James’ Park.
Howe, who has been in charge of Newcastle since November 2021, is currently one of the longest-serving managers in the Premier League, behind only Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, and Marco Silva.
Speaking to BBC Sport on Tuesday, the Newcastle boss was asked whether anything could tempt him away from the club following the sacking of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
“No. Not at this current time,” Howe said.
“The most important thing for me is happiness in the role, happiness in the job, the relationships that I have with the people around me. I’m very happy at the moment.”
During his time at Newcastle, Howe has overseen several changes within the club’s management structure, including the departures of sporting director Paul Mitchell and chief executive Darren Eales. Despite the transitions, he has established strong working relationships with their successors, Ross Wilson and David Hopkinson.
On the pitch, Newcastle are currently ninth in the Premier League table, just two points behind fifth place. The club is also on course for a Champions League last-16 play-off spot and has reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Howe emphasised that unity across all levels of the club has been key to Newcastle’s progress.
“For any club to be successful, there has to be unity from top to bottom,” he said.
“I’ve had an unbelievable relationship with the board. That’s never changed. To have the confidence and trust within each other is really important.”
The Newcastle manager added that he intends to remain at the club for as long as he can continue to perform at his best, pointing to the strong support he enjoys from the club’s owners, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, as well as minority shareholder Jamie Reuben.
