Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian military for significant strides in tackling insecurity, particularly in reducing insurgency and kidnapping across key regions of the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 15, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau highlighted Tinubu’s achievements in his first two years in office, noting that the administration had established a solid foundation for economic and social prosperity.
Barau stated, “Hundreds of terrorists have been neutralised in the North West geopolitical zone. Yes, there are still pockets of kidnapping and attacks, but they are minimal compared to the situation before this administration came in.”
He emphasized that the notorious Abuja–Kaduna highway has seen a sharp decline in kidnappings, and that the activities of unknown gunmen in the Southeast are on a downward trend. Commenting on the North-East, he acknowledged recent attacks in Borno State but maintained that Boko Haram had been “almost completely eradicated” before the resurgence.
He assured Nigerians that “our gallant members of the Armed Forces will act decisively to smoke them out permanently,” noting that five out of six states in the North-East are now largely peaceful.
Barau also linked improved national security to the successful rollout of key economic initiatives, such as the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) programme, which he said would not be possible without improved security.
The lawmaker praised Tinubu for addressing economic challenges head-on, including attracting billions in foreign direct investment, clearing the forex backlog, and settling inherited debts. He acknowledged ongoing economic and security hurdles but insisted that “it is not easy to rebuild a shattered building.”
Urging the public to continue supporting the Tinubu-led administration, he said, “President Tinubu has left no stone unturned in addressing the country’s challenges… To this end, I urge all to give maximum support to the government to continue with these people-oriented and pro-masses initiatives conceived to take our country to the Eldorado.”
