Davido Says Meeting Chris Brown in 2018 Changed His Career

Afrobeats star reflects on how a surprise FaceTime call sparked a lasting friendship with the American R&B singer.

In a recent episode of the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, Nigerian music superstar Davido opened up about a pivotal moment in his career — meeting Chris Brown in 2018.

The Afrobeats singer shared that the initial connection came through one of Chris Brown’s closest friends, who happens to be Nigerian.
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life. I met him in 2018. He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends,” Davido recalled.

The moment came unexpectedly via FaceTime.
“The friend called me one day on FaceTime, and my song was playing in the background,” he said. “I asked where he was, and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house. I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And he showed me Chris dancing to my song.”

That spontaneous interaction marked the beginning of a friendship that would later lead to musical collaborations and career-defining moments for the Nigerian artist.

“He gave Chris Brown the phone; that was the first time we had a conversation,” Davido explained. “A few months later, I went to America and linked up with Chris. From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends.”

Since then, the duo has collaborated on several tracks, blending Afrobeats and R&B to global acclaim.
