Popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, has paid a rare and heartfelt tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, describing him as a “legend” in a brief but powerful social media post that has sparked an outpouring of emotion online.
The emotional message was posted via his official X account on Monday, July 22, 2025, at 9:39 p.m. Davido simply wrote:
“Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke RIP LEGEND!!”
This marks one of the few public times Davido has directly addressed the tragic loss since Ifeanyi’s passing in November 2022. The three-year-old, his first son with wife Chioma Rowland, reportedly drowned in a pool at their Banana Island residence, an incident that shocked the nation and sent waves through the entertainment industry.
Following the touching tribute, fans and celebrities joined Davido in mourning and remembrance.
A widely shared post from @SosaOfTogo included a black-and-white photo of Davido cradling Ifeanyi — a photo that quickly went viral again, amplifying the collective sense of loss.
In May 2025, Davido had shared on Apple Music’s Ebro Darden show that one of his twin sons, born in October 2023, bears a striking resemblance to Ifeanyi, saying:
“It’s like literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back.’”
Davido also reflected on how the loss reshaped his life, saying he withdrew from public life to focus on his wife and family, later finding renewed strength in his marriage, the birth of the twins, and the success of his Timeless album.
“That type of loss made you just be like, ‘I’m out’. But God is real,” he said in the interview.
The couple, who secretly married in the aftermath of their son’s death, held a lavish public wedding ceremony in June 2024, symbolizing a new chapter amid the lingering grief.
As Davido’s simple tribute echoes across the world, fans continue to remember little Ifeanyi — a child who, in Davido’s words, is nothing short of a legend.
