Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has quashed speculation about Andrey Santos’ potential exit, confirming that the young Brazilian midfielder will remain with the squad for the upcoming season.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against West Ham on Friday, Maresca expressed delight over Santos’ continued presence at Stamford Bridge, citing his adaptability as a key asset.
“I’m very happy with Andrey and very happy with Andrey staying here with us. He can play in Enzo Fernandez’s position for sure, he can play in Moi’s Caicedo position for sure,” Maresca stated, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The manager’s comments underline Santos’ growing importance to Chelsea, offering depth in midfield roles occupied by senior stars Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo.
Chelsea, who drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in their opening match, will seek their first victory of the 2025/26 Premier League season against West Ham, who lost 3-0 to Sunderland.
Historically, Chelsea hold an advantage with 16 wins in 29 meetings, while West Ham have eight wins and five draws. However, the Hammers boast a strong home record, winning four of their last eight home league fixtures against Chelsea.
