Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has reiterated that the club’s primary objective this season is to win the UEFA Champions League.
Flick made the statement on Tuesday during his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash away to Slavia Prague.
“Everyone wants to win trophies and the Champions League is one of those. It’s an objective and we are hungry and ready for tomorrow,” the German tactician said.
Beyond the long-term ambition, Flick revealed that Barcelona’s immediate target is to reach 16 points in the league stage of the competition. The Catalan side currently sit 15th in the standings with 10 points from six matches.
“We want to get to 16 points. We have potential and we are looking at each match to improve. We are a young team and we can all raise our game,” he added.
Looking ahead to Wednesday’s encounter, Flick warned that Slavia Prague would pose a serious challenge. He praised the Czech side’s tactical discipline and intensity.
“They defend well and press high up the field, and that is what I expect of them,” he said.
Flick also highlighted Slavia Prague’s attacking threat, stressing the need for focus throughout the game.
“They like to attack and press and they are dangerous on the break. It will be a tough game and we will have to put in a Champions League performance. It will be key to be attentive to not losing the ball,” he concluded.
