Burkina Faso have parted ways with national coach Brama Traore after their last-16 exit at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, making him the second coaching casualty of the tournament.

Traore, 63, had guided Burkina Faso to second place in their group but suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in the first knockout round one week ago.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Burkinabe Football Federation said:
“Following a thorough analysis of Burkina Faso’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, it has been decided to terminate collaboration with the national coach Brama Traore, as well as his entire technical staff. This decision follows results deemed to fall far short of the objectives set for the national team in this major continental competition.”

The statement added that the performance had caused “deep disappointment among supporters, stakeholders in national football, and governing bodies,” noting that the pre-tournament target was to reach at least the semi-finals, reflecting the team’s strong showings in previous editions.

Traore had been in charge of the national team for 22 months. His dismissal comes after Tunisia coach Sami Trabelsi was also sacked following his team’s elimination in the round of 16.
