President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Lamido Yuguda as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the nomination in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate and was made in line with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

“The President charges them to discharge their responsibilities with renewed dedication, professionalism, and commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth, in their respective roles,” the statement read.

President Tinubu also urged the nominee to approach the role with professionalism and a strong commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic stability.

Yuguda previously served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission Nigeria from 2020 to 2024.

His nomination follows the recent appointment of former CBN Deputy Governor Bala Bello as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

An experienced economist, Yuguda is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and also holds a charter from the CFA Institute.

He began his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1984 as a senior supervisor in the foreign operations department. He later served as an economist in the Africa department of the International Monetary Fund between 1997 and 2001 before returning to the CBN.

Yuguda retired from the apex bank in 2016 after six years as Director of the Reserve Management Department.

On February 22, 2024, he was also confirmed alongside 12 others as members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
