The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State has celebrated the recognition of four former corps members honoured by President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 NYSC Presidential Honours Award held on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by the NYSC Benue Information Officer, Yahuza Adamu, the organisation described the honourees as “Benue ambassadors” who exemplified dedication, innovation, and impact during their service year.
The honourees include:
- Okoye Prosper (BN/22A/0698) – A member of the Editorial and Publicity CDS Group, recognised for leading impactful media campaigns and civic engagements that amplified the voices of rural communities.
- Ogunleye Paulinarh Bolatito (BN/22A/3096) – From the Digital Onboarders Literacy CDS Group, she was lauded for spearheading digital awareness initiatives that empowered underserved youth with tech skills.
- Udokop Owoidoho Abasi Nsima (BN/23B/0385) – Another standout from the Editorial and Publicity CDS Group, known for bringing innovation to information sharing among corps members and host communities.
- Chika Michelle Chioma (BN/23B/1731) – Her creative, community-based tech education projects helped bridge knowledge gaps and inspire young learners across Benue.
“The four Benue ambassadors did not just serve; they soared,” the statement read. “Their selection for this national honour is a testament to the vibrant spirit of NYSC Benue and a proud moment for the entire state.”
A total of 210 former corps members from across Nigeria were honoured by President Tinubu for outstanding performance across NYSC’s core areas: Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and the final Passing Out phase.
The event also paid tribute to ten former corps members who suffered permanent disabilities during service. Their bravery was recognised under the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative, with awards highlighting the sacrifices made in service to the nation.
The NYSC Presidential Honours Award comes with major benefits, including:
Automatic employment in the Federal Civil Service, Fully funded postgraduate scholarships up to PhD level, Medals, plaques, and other life-changing incentives.
The NYSC stated that the awards reflect the ongoing contribution of the scheme to youth leadership, national unity, and the development of Nigeria.
“From khaki to glory, the journey was worth it,” the statement concluded.
