Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Luis Diaz from Liverpool, with the deal reportedly worth up to €75 million ($86.5 million). The 28-year-old Colombian international has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions, keeping him at the club until 2029.
Diaz leaves Anfield after a successful stint, during which he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. Last season, he featured in 50 matches across all competitions, scoring 17 goals, helping Liverpool to clinch their 20th English league title.
“In Luis Diaz, we have succeeded in bringing in one of the best left wingers in the Premier League,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He brings real player character from Liverpool to FC Bayern — he’s won silverware with every one of his clubs to date.”
Diaz expressed his excitement at joining the German giants:
“It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern. They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character. My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work for every day as a team.”
The Colombian was left out of Liverpool’s recent 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in a preseason friendly in Hong Kong, amid rising speculation about his future.
His arrival provides Bayern with a top-quality replacement for Jamal Musiala, who suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle at the Club World Cup and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
