Nigerian singer Asake has shared his thoughts on the perception of humility and ego in the music industry, arguing that being humble is often mistaken for weakness.
In a viral TikTok video, the Afrobeats star said fans are more attracted to artists who project confidence or ego, rather than those who present themselves as modest.
“As an artiste, if you’re humble, they take you for granted. But if you have ego they feel like you’re not accessible then they like you more,” Asake explained.
He stressed that people are usually interested in the final results of an artist’s work rather than the process behind it. According to him, musicians should focus on their output and let their success speak for itself.
“People would rather see what you’re doing than showing them. They don’t really appreciate it. Do what you need to do and just go,” he added.
Asake’s comments have sparked online debate, with many fans weighing in on whether humility or ego drives stronger connections in the entertainment world.
